Nile + Villiers is a residential-led development project comprising 75 homes and 575 sqm of commercial space along High Street West. The aim is to contribute to the growth of Sunniside as a living and working neighbourhood within the city centre, offering high-quality homes for sale and rent.
This development holds significance for Sunniside and the wider city centre as a high-quality scheme prioritising environmental and social sustainability. Partly funded by DLUCH’s Levelling Up Fund following the Council’s successful bid in 2021, it stands as an integral part of the City Centre Housing Ecosystem, complementing initiatives like the Housing Innovation & Construction Skills Academy (HICSA) and the Vaux Neighborhood.
Sunderland City Council is the developer of the scheme, with TOWN in the role of development manager.

A vacant ground floor unit that has blighted Coronation Street over the last 10 years, has been acquired by the Council. Plans are developing to introduce a meanwhile use that supports the creative sector in the area.
Car parking changes around the Nile + Villiers Site
21st October 2024
In November 2024, the High Street West car park will close.
There are alternative car parks near by: Sunniside Multi Storey; Charles Street Car Park; Nile Street; Nile Street (South end); High Street West (Private car park) (opposite car park closing).
